The Sol Callao "El Greco" Apartment is located just off the Puerta del Sol, Madrid’s emblematic centre and a thriving hub. Overlooking the square is a clock that marks the arrival of the New Year for the nation and the traditional eating of twelve grapes. Nearby are most of the city’s most popular attractions including Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, the Cathedral and Madrid’s three renowned art museums: the Prado, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza. Next the Plaza is one the city’s biggest shopping districts, which includes a vast “El Corte Inglés” department store. Also within walking distance is the popular Plaza de Santa Ana, where there are many terraces for dining al fresco in the warmer months. The Puerta del Sol has excellent communications, and the train station of Atocha is within easy reach.
